Strangely excited

For the last couple of months, I have been obsessing over a new-to-me blog. It is written by Sherry and John, two young people sharing their adventures of fixing up their house: <http://www.younghouselove.com> I haven’t stopped reading their blog since the day I came across it, but today’s reveal that they sold their current house and chose a new dwelling has left me strangely excited.

Yes, it is actually a blog about renovating and decorating your house. My love for their blog came as kind of a surprise to me, as I have not really been that into renovating. And decorating. If you know what I mean. I can give you a list of neat font foundries to check out or point you in the direction of some pretty nice papers, but home goods? Furniture? Window treatments? Uh … IKEA, maybe? Not so much. Lately, I have noticed a shift in my perspective though. Seeing colors, furnishings, rooms I like, and realizing that these are things we can change to the better in our apartment. The discovery of John and Sherry’s blog really got the ball rolling and propelled me from just noticing to actually wanting to take action. Fast forward a few weeks and you find us scraping off the awful paint job on our doorframes, painting nearly a third of our apartment’s square meters of shelf boards (and that’s just the smaller shelf we’re painting …) and making at least one daily trip to the hardware store (Bauhaus is our favorite right now). Crazy.

So thank you, younghouselove. Now please excuse me, I’m off to the bathroom to brush my teeth, trying not to bump into any freshly painted surfaces on the way. Or trip over one of our several tool and material storages. Or, say, a stack of books. Exciting indeed.
